Why bother

A default Tally form is white with purple buttons and looks like every other Tally form. Mine are black and orange with my logo at the top, split into steps so nobody opens a wall of forty fields and closes the tab.

The difference used to cost me an afternoon of clicking. Now I describe the form and it exists, live, about a minute later.

01 Say what it is for An onboarding form, a client kickoff, an application, a survey. Describe it in a sentence.
02 It writes the questions In plain English, split into steps, one idea per step. You correct what it got wrong.
03 It builds it live Through the Tally API, in your brand, with a progress bar and answers that save as people type.
04 It checks the render A 201 from an API does not mean the form looks right. It loads the live page and proves the theme landed.

What you get

  1. Multi-step by default. One idea per screen, three to six questions each, with a progress bar. Long forms stop feeling long and people finish them.
  2. Your brand, in three lines. Background, accent and logo are three values at the top of one file. Change them once and every form you build follows.
  3. Answers that survive. Partial submissions and save for later are on, so somebody can go look up an account number and come back without losing the rest.
  4. Wired to your automation. One call hooks submissions to n8n, Make, Zapier or your own endpoint. It refuses to stack a second webhook on a form that already has one.
  5. A worked client kickoff form. The real shape of one that works, collecting every bit of access a project needs in a single pass.
  6. Every Tally API trap, written down. The ones that cost me hours, so they cost you nothing.

  • 3 values to rebrand the whole thing
  • 1 minute from description to live form
  • 0 clicking

What you need

  • A Tally API keySettings, then API keys. The free plan is enough.
  • PythonWith requests and python-dotenv. One pip install.
  • Your two colours and a logo URLThe dark and the accent that carry your brand.

Make it yours

It ships in my black and orange, so that is the first thing to change. Three values at the top of the builder:

make-it-yours.txt
BRAND_ACCENT   = "#F47C20"
BRAND_BG       = "#0d0d0d"
BRAND_LOGO_URL = "https://www.ezjonline.com/assets/logo-icon.png"

Keep the background a true near-black rather than a warm brown-black, and do not put a gradient there. Tally renders it badly.

The part most forms get wrong

A form stores whatever gets typed into it. That makes a form the wrong place for a password or an API key, however convenient it feels when you are trying to get a project moving.

So the kickoff form in here never asks for a credential. It asks people to confirm they invited you as your own named admin user, which is safer, revocable, and leaves a trail on their side. Anything that genuinely has to move gets sent through a one time secret link instead. That rule is written into the form copy, near the top and again at the end, so nobody has to think about it.

What it will not do

It will not send the form to anyone. It builds it, publishes it and hands you the link. Who gets it is your call, not the model's. It also will not delete a form to rebuild it clean, because that breaks every link already out in the world. Edits keep the same URL.

Try it with

example-prompt.txt
Build me a client onboarding form. Four steps: who they are, what they bought, the access we need, and how they want to be contacted. Keep almost everything optional, they fill it in on a call.
